TL;DR - I’m planning a Vercel meetup in October, I partnered with a makerspace, and I explain the benefits of doing so!!! 💖💕 More musings on hosting @vercel meetups! Although, this really applies to any tech meetup! Again, I don’t work for Vercel so *grain of salt* lol. If you’re planning a tech meetup and you live in a city that doesn’t have a huge tech presence - I strongly suggest reaching out to makerspaces! I’m outside of Cleveland, OH (US) and a local makerspace has a series that they do where they teach “skill classes”. Those classes are usually more focused around stuff like robotics, woodworking, soldering, etc.. but I called the programming director of the makerspace and asked if they’d be interested in doing a singular class on @v0 (and if there was enough interest, converting that into a more thought out series with curriculum that includes projects)! They hadn’t considered expanding into software classes so I pitched it like a low cost pilot/experiment and they were happy to participate! ✨Some other benefits to makerspaces✨: ✅There’s already a community of people who care about STEM and tech that you can tap into! ✅Makerspaces are… well… physical spaces lol. And they’re usually community driven so you can usually book the space for free or a super low cost! ✅By nature of how they work, makerspaces host events and programs all the time for their patrons. So if you’re new to event hosting, they usually have a person who does programming who can help you! Good luck and have fun, besties!!!
